21 June :: England - Croatia 2-1
A Wayne Rooney brace and goals from Paul Scholes and Frank Lampard ensured England will meet Portugal in the quarter-finals of Euro 2004. England went behind in the sixth minute after Niko Kovac poked the ball home. But Scholes' close-range header drew England level and Rooney then arrowed a shot past keeper Tomislav Butina. England took control of the game in the 68th minute when Rooney latched on to Owen's pass and the Everton striker stroked the ball past Butina to claim his fourth goal of the tournament. In the 74 minute, Tudor pulled a goal back for Croatia with a header, but Lampard restored England's two-goal advantage after he broke into the box with a surging run and then drilled the ball past Butina.This is the first time England progress beyond the group phase when the European Championship is staged outside of England.
17 June :: France vs Croatia 2-2
In a dramatic battle France drew against Croatia 2-2.The overtime victory against England had obviously fired the French squad and they started the game attacking with style and verve.The French opened the score from a set piece when Tudor misfortunately deflected the ball into his own net. French defender Silvestre reciprocated Tudor's mistake by giving away a penalty early in the second half. Rapaics finished the opportunity thus equalizing the game. Not long after, a poor clearance by Desailly put the Croatians ahead 2-1.The French responded with another goal when Trezeguet chased a poor back pass and keeper Butina rushing to save hit the ball against him.The French striker controlled the ball with his hand and rolled it into the empty net while the referee remained oblivious.
13 June :: Switzerland - Croatia 0-0
The two presumed outsiders of Group B both settled for single point in their encounter.Croatia missed on capitalizing from early opportunities and repeatedly failed to finish.Not long after half time Johann Vogel was sent off and the Swiss pulled back, giving away possession.With only 10 men on the field, Switzerland battled desperately in defense.In the final minutes of the match, frustrated Croatia nearly gave up a goal as Benjamin Huggel blasted a long-range shot, which was fumbled away for a corner by Butina.
