22 June :: Italy - Bulgaria 2-1
Regardless of beating Bulgaria 2-1, Italy failed to advance past the group stage of Euro 2004.The Bulgarians started strong, opening the score from a penalty by Martin Petrov late in the first half.Italy responded by aggressively pressuring and managed to equalize early in the second half.Italy took control of the game missing a number of opportunities and pulling off another goal, practically at the end of the match.But this did not help them get through the next stage as Denmark and Sweden finished on top thanks to their favorable goal difference.

18 June :: Sweden - Italy 1-1
Italy were held to a 1-1 draw by Sweden in a pulsating Euro 2004 Group C match here on Friday. A cheeky back-heeled goal from Zlatan Ibrahimovic five minutes from time salvaged a point for the Swedes after Antonio Cassano's first-half header had given Italy the lead. At this point, Sweden top the group on goal difference even though they and Denmark have four points from two matches, while Italy are third with two points.

14 June :: Denmark - Italy 0-0
Denmark and Italy finished with a scoreless draw in the first match of Group C. Inspired goalkeeping and cautious play kept the scoresheet clean for the entire 90 minutes.Denmark's Thomas Sørensen produced a stunning double save to deny Alessandro Del Piero and Francesco Totti just before half-time.Gianluigi Buffon emulated his opposite number to brilliantly keep out efforts in quick succession from Jon Dahl Tomasson and Dennis Rommedahl in the second half of what was an enthralling encounter in the Estádio D. Afonso Henriques.

The Italian national team
