High-Performance Soccer
by Paul Caligiuri and Dan Herbst
Review: This is a great resource for high school and college players.
The book follows the life and career of Paul Caligiuri, a former American international starting from his youth to the time when he got signed in the Bundesliga.
High-Performance Soccer explains the approach which Caligiuri used to build up his own abilities.
The book not only deals with techniques and skills but also gives you great pointers for developing your attitude.
Pros: Interesting insider stories from Caliguiri's personal life; Explains how to develop your skills through the perspective of a proven pro player; Great pointers for your mental game
Cons: Caligiuri did not write the entire book; Defending was not covered, which is really ironic considering that Caligiuri was a defender himself
Overall: Recommended!

Conditioning for Soccer
by Joe Luxbacher
Review: This is a nice book for anyone who is over the age of 15 and wants to develop his own fitness routine, workout program or even a personal diet.
Luxbacher explains the basics of fitness training like aerobic (cardio), anaerobic, plyometrics and speed training.
He also covers stretching and weightlifting all the while giving you practical drills.
Pros: Covers many aspects of conditioning; Written in clear, everyday language; Shows you great, effective drills; Costs just $12.95!
Cons: Luxbacher covers many aspects of conditioning but doesn't get too deep with any one of them; Features cheesy artwork
Overall: Good!

Focused for Soccer
by Bill Beswick
Review: I must say that this is one of my favorite soccer books.
At first I was skeptical that it would be one of those "self-help" titles only aiming to inspire you.
To my surprise, Beswick appeals to one's intelligence by taking a purely scientific approach.
He covers many aspects of psychology and shows you how they affect performance.
Pros: Bill Beswick is a respected authority; Gives you competent advice on improving many aspects of your mental game; The book talks about visualization (a really exciting concept)
Cons: Beswick should have concentrated more on the application of his theories. The book lacks flow - it only gives you dry facts and stories
Overall: Highly Recommended!
